Dreaming Big

DREAM BIG, the idea straight from Wyatt’s brilliant mind. As February began we heard of a competition put on by one of our favorite DMD non-profit foundations: Jett Foundation. They requested for ideas to be printed on Valentine conversation hearts which will then be voted on. While Wyatt slept, I made a list of ideas for him to submit. When he woke up I told him about the competition and the ideas that I had and he immediately said: “DREAM BIG. That’s what I want to submit.” I looked at him and smiled and just knew that those words came from his heart. We have always told both of our boys that they can do whatever they put their minds to and even if their dream seems impossible that, as their parents, we are here to support them and help them to achieve their dreams.
I dared to ask Wyatt what he dreams of and he still cannot put those thoughts or ideas into words. I believe he has dreams in his heart and mind that he just cannot explain to others. So I tell him what I dream for him. I dream of a life where the challenges are not insurmountable. A life where he knows others are put in his life to help him achieve all things he dreams to do in his life.
Now, my Wynston on the other hand has big dreams of his future and is not afraid to tell everyone about them. As many young boys do, he dreams of owning his own company, of being president, of going into the army and of even being the best fisherman and hunter around. I love listening to his ideas of his future, who am I kidding, I love just listening to him. I dream of the day that he no longer compares himself to his brother and to one day know how special and smart he is and just how handsome of a boy he is. I dream of the day he loves himself even half as much as Patrick and I do.
I am so thankful, we made it through the first month of 2021. In January, one leader left office and another was inaugurated, but yet our country continues to be divided. Wynston asks questions about all of the politics and tries to understand what is going on in the world, while Wyatt just takes it day by day living his life without worrying much of the unrest in our country. I worry about my children growing up in a divided country and what this means for their life in the future. My dream for my family, my friends, and my country is of a future where people can live life the way they want and not worry about someone always judging every belief they have. I teach the boys that not everyone has the same opinion and beliefs and that is ok and everyone should be respected even if/especially if they are different. Dream Big my friends as the future depends on it.
